My friend and active member of many Meetup Groups, Danamarie Jones passed away in August 2009.  This page and your donation to Junior Achievement of New York will be a standing tribute to her memory.

About Danamarie Jones

Danamarie was a Senior Accountant for a global travel agency, a company from which she would amicably part ways at the end of the month. To celebrate her newfound freedom, and in the spirit of all of the things that this group stands for, she had many trips planned, including a long-awaited Hawaiian vacation. Marie, as she preferred to be called, planned to see the world!

Besides being an avid bowler, lover of karaoke and movies, Marie LOVED her Meetup groups! She always said that she was so happy to have found her Girlfriends' group as an adult because it gave her the opportunity to connect with and appreciate women in a way she never had before. In her own words, "Danielle creates an atmosphere that draws a caliber of woman that is above and beyond being divisive, cliquish and/or standoffish. You will be guaranteed to have a fabulous experience!!" She was a smart, funny, witty person with a good, good heart. She was a kick-ass Scrabble and Spades player. She was a Girlfriend through and through. If you knew her, my condolences go out to you.

If you did not have the pleasure, you missed out on knowing a great, great lady.  R.I.P. Danamarie.  You are missed.

About Junior Achievement of New York (from the JANY website)

Junior Achievement of New York (JANY) is a non-profit organization that connects volunteers with students in grades K—12. Through in-class activities, after-school programs, and workplace experiences, students acquire the confidence they need to succeed in their future careers and in life. Junior Achievement of New York’s mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.

Regardless of economic background, many students lack the knowledge they need in order to achieve success in their future careers and in life. They simply may not understand how learning in school connects to their future success.

Our volunteer teaching programs encourage volunteers to serve as role models as they use their skills and life experiences as professionals to teach young people career and life skills. Volunteers are placed into New York City and Long Island classrooms to teach students about their role in society and how to successfully navigate their futures, beginning with the most basic understanding of themselves and their communities. In addition, JANY sponsors a complete spectrum of educational experiences outside the classroom, like job shadowing, after-school programs, interactive games, and a variety of annual events.
